Managing Value Sets

This feature allows a user to view, create, edit, and delete Value Sets and Value Set items, depending on the permission and type of Value Set.

There are three kinds of value sets:

  • Tendo-defined and -delivered value sets - These are managed entirely by Tendo. They are typically added to a tenant during provisioning. Their values are not configurable in the interface, so they are read only in the Value Set interface and you won’t see controls to add new values, edit values, or delete values for them.

The other two types are Tenanted:

  • Configurable - Tendo creates and owns this type of value set, but the values can be modified for customers by Customer Engagement.
  • Custom - These value sets and their values can be created and managed on a tenant basis according to customer needs. Tendo Customer Engagement works with customers to do this. A user with the right permissions can create, edit and delete these custom value sets.

Permissions

Access to viewing and/or modifying value sets is controlled by permissions that are set on the following roles:

Object Manager - Can create, edit, and delete custom objects and fields and the underlying value sets. To do their work, they need two permissions:

  • Manage Objects
  • Manage Value Sets

Object Viewer - References objects and fields and their underlying value set listings to perform their work. They need these permissions:

  • Read Objects
  • Read Value Sets

Viewing Value Sets

Log in to Atrium, and select Tools from the main navigation dropdown menu in the upper left corner. Click Data on the left navigation bar, and select the Value Sets tab.

You can search for a value set in the search bar at the top, or browse the list to find the value set you want.

Each value set in the list has either a pink Tendo tag or a blue Custom tag to the right, reflecting the type of value set it is.

Some of the value sets also have a rose colored subhead under the title that says Configurable. These all signal what kind of value set they are.

Creating a New Custom Value Set

To create a new value set, click on the + icon at the top of the value sets list view under the Value Sets tab.

Note: if you don’t have Manage Value Sets permission, this icon will not display so you won’t be able to create custom value sets.

An Add Value Set modal displays.

Input this information:

  • Name - Required. Use Pascal case names with a maximum of 40 characters. Don’t add spaces, underscores, or other non-alpha numeric characters. The first character must be a capital letter, and not a number. It must be the same name as the Value set. The system will automatically add a __c suffix onto the name.
  • Category Source - Optional. Not all value sets have a Category Source, but some do because they reference standard or custom sets of category values. For example, the AppointmentType value set has a Category Source - AppointmentTypeGroup.

If you click on the Values tab, you will see that the values for this configurable value set,are all customized values for types of healthcare appointments.

These types of visits relate to custom values in the AppointmentTypeGroup value set.

Click back on the Details tab, and click the See Value Set link on the right of Category Source. It will take you to a detail view of the AppointmentTypeGroup. Click the Values tab for that value set, and you will see that it includes custom appointment types that were used as categories to create the AppointmentType values.

Click back on the Details tab, and then on the See Value Set link next to the Category Source, and you will see the AppointmentTypeCategory value set’s detail view. Click on the Values tab, and you can see two Tendo-defined values for office visits - In Office and Virtual. Neither of these is custom. They are standard appointment type categories that are used as the basis for a variety of different custom office visits.

Category sources are not shown in various user interviews after they are created. They serve only to link various value set types in the above way.

  • Ranked - Optional. When this is checked, you can sort values in the order you want them to appear in an interface. For example, you may include categories that you want to appear in a particular order, such as Draft, In Progress, and Completed.. If you check Ranked, you will have that option when you later edit the value set. For example, the value set below is being edited in the Edit Value Set Items modal. It has items that are ranked High, Medium, and Low. The editor can drag these items up or down to reflect a ranking order if Ranked has been checked for that value set in the Add Value Set modal.

When you have finished inputting information into the Add Value Set modal, click Add.
